Last WPCA challenge

This is my last blog post for 2016 :)

This was my third year at YMS and it was good.
On Friday we had our last WPCA challenge.
We went up the Bridle Path and into Lyttelton.
Later on we met Stephen and Anna and we started our raft building.
We got into 2 groups and made our Rafts.

I had a lot of fun on that day.
I have completed the William Pike Challenge Award and am really proud.

100 WC

This is my 100 word challenge for this week.
And this weeks prompt was:

  • Where is the smoke coming from?
  • What do you see as it clears?
  • Is it good or bad or dangerous?
  • What does it smell like?
 Hope you like it.

Most of the smoke comes from pollution that china makes, but one day the factories stopped and the smoke cleared. It was bad smoke but now all of the chinese people can breath fresh air again for one day.  Not everyone knows that pollution is bad for our health but it is. It is very dangerous because it mixes into the air, which means that we are breathing this all in.
This can make You sick or even sometimes kill you.
I hope that everyone realises how bad pollution is and they stop because it also affects  our health.

Kahoot

This is my kahoot I made about our Bush Survival.
I made this with Tim and cayde.
Hopefully you find this useful.

Holidays

My holidays were really boring.
I didn't really do anything exciting.
I went to jelly park with some friends and that basically all.
I also watched the Magnificent Seven online. I would give it a ten out of ten because it is a really good movie.

When I went to jelly park with my cousin Hamid and my friends Mohammad, I was looking forward to go on the diving board but the outside pools were closed. So I decided to do some laps.
After 3 hours I was really tired so I decided to go to burger king, I had a chicken mcchicken with a sundae with fries and a drink.

I took the bus home and I went straight to bed because I was really tired. Then I went to jacks house and we went to the hut. Then we went to the dairy and bought some things.

My holiday was really boring.

YMS ski trip

On Friday the 9th of September YMS went on a ski trip to Mt. Hutt.
We came to school at 7 and left at 7:15, the bus ride was 1 and a half hours.
Some people fell asleep on the bus.
It was a lot of fun because I went up the quad and came down highway 72.
The first few times I had trouble with it but I became more and more confident each time I went down.
I really had fun.

Cantamaths

In term 3 Rimu class have been working on our cantamaths projects. There were lots of categories to do from but our group decided we should make a 3D model of a WWE ring.
It was fun to make but also challenging because we had trouble trying to keep the turnbuckles up.
We were really happy that we got it finished and we thought we did a really good job.
What do you think of it?

Also I was in the year 7 cantamaths team and we went to horncastle arena and there were 60 school there in total.
Even though we didn't win we still had fun; I was the runner for my team and was really tired at the end.

Smoking should be illegal!

In the last 6 weeks Rimu was working on how to write and create and persuasive speeches, there was no specific topic to write about so I decided to write about why Smoking Should Be Illegal.
Lots of people die because of smoking each year and it is expensive and an unhealthy habit, so that's why I feel that smoking should be illegal.
Here is my speech, for why I think Smoking Should Be Illegal.
What I did really well is that I spoke clearly and was looking to the audience and not looking at the cards too much.
The things I want to work on is:

Getting the audience hooked in.

Speak with expression and change tone as appropriate.

Use body language like gestures.

How do you think I did?

Golden

This is my 100 word challenge.

The golden leaves fell from the trees as I tried to remember how I got here and where is here. The ground felt very soft on my feet. All of a sudden I saw a white light coming towards me. I asked who are you and where am I, But it started to come closer so I started to run away. It was chasing after me and was saying something to me. ‘Wake up’ said the ahh, I don’t know what he even is. Wake up, Wake up, I saw everyone getting out of there seats to leave. The movie was finished.

Rock Climbing Adventure!

Thanks to Miss Blair, Miss royfee, Miss Todd, Andrea, Jacqie and Tanya For transport . On June the 20th the year 7 and 8 students from Rimu class went ROCK CLIMBING at Cattlestop crag in the port hills for the second William Pike outdoor challenge. When we got there there was a beautiful view and we could see all the houses and buildings.

When we got there we had two instructors, Steven and Josh and they told us that to be successful we need to take pride and resilience in our everyday life. These were the two values we were focusing on today .They told us that we will be ROCK CLIMBING and ABSEILING. I had not done ABSEILING before so I was excited.

I tried the rock climbing first and I decided to do the easiest one and I did it easily. When I got to the top I felt really proud of myself and wanted to challenge myself with a harder climb. I did all 5 climbs and had completed all the levels. I was really proud when I got to the top of the last one because I was the first one to complete the last one. I was the only one to complete all the levels.

Overall at the end of the day I felt like falling asleep because my arms, finger and my foot was tired of all the rock climbing.. I thought that it is really important that we use pride and resilience in your everyday life because if you want to be successful we need to not give up. We also had an amazing view this is what it

Bob

This is my 100 word challenge for the week. It has 100 words.

When I came home I saw that my Bob, my cat had eaten my yellow violin that I had brought from this airplane shop in New York when I went on holiday. He is a weird cat, He eats everything in his way once he almost ate the neighbors fence. When I went into the kitchen I saw the fridge door open and everything was eaten. There was food on the ground. So I swept it up. Later on that day I decided to take Bob for a walk around the park. Everyone who saw Bob started to back away.

100 word challenge

This week Rimu class have been doing the 100WC. This is my one which has 100 words in it. This is something that people all around the world do and we get comments from teacher and students from different countries. Also, it makes us think lots about our vocabulary.

Once upon a time a old man was bored so he decided to go for for a walk through the park with his neighbour. On their way they saw a street magician doing magic to the children. So he decided to ask the magician that ‘if magic is real then turn me into a statue. And the magician said that's what she said and the man was magically turned into a statue. Everyone around him was amazed and started to clapping. So his friend had to carry him/statute to his how and just left him there. And he died.

100 wc

This week Rimu class have been doing the 100WC. This is my one which has 97 words in it. This is something that people all around the world do and we get comments from teacher and students from different countries. Also, it makes us think lots about our vocabulary.

One day Joe and I went to rugby training together.

When it ended we decided to go to the library,
on our way we saw a boy who was smoking and a bit of the flame dropped on his pants and started a fire. As the flame flickered and then went out. Lucky the boy wasn’t burnt but his pants had a hole in it. When we went to the library I got a book out by Richie McCaw for a project at school. When we came back we took the bus and went home.

I woke out of bed scared, I heard a noise from downstairs. I got out of bed and went downstairs to have a look at what was down there. My orange glow in the dark pyjamas that were 800 dollar were shining bright in the dark . I went outside and saw thunder in the sky. I also noticed that the rain had formed a swimming pool so I decided to go for a swim and it was 2 meters deep. But after 2 hours of swimming I decided to bring an umbrella so I could dry myself. But then the thunder hit and I died

This week Rimu class have been doing the 100WC this is my one which has 99 words in it. This is something that people all around the world do and we get comments from teacher and students from different countries. And it makes us think lots about our vocabulary.
Suddenly, as I opened the door, pans and plates fell to the floor. The earthquake had almost knocked my house down but my dog was still in there, I needed to get him out of there. Three, Two, One, I rushed off into the house looking for my dog but I didn’t hear her anywear. Where can she be?. I was worried and a bit scared but just then I heard her in the kitchen. I rushed to the kitchen and held her tight in my hands and rushed to the door just before the house collapsed down.

My fake or real holiday.

Today Rimu class was given the task to write a school holiday story that was true or false. My story is down below, make sure to leave your thought in the comments (is it true or false?).

On the first Monday I drove to Queenstown with my friend and his mum. we stayed in a motel. It had 3 bedroom with a TV in each but my favorite thing about it was that it had free wifi.

On the second day we rode on the gondola. My friend was a bit scared but he got over his fear of heights. When we got on top we stayed on a small mountain and we could see the whole of Queenstown.

When we came back to Christchurch we drove to Hanmer Springs with mum, dad, my sister and my little brother. We went swimming and I slid on the hydroslide. It  was my first time I have been on the Hanmer hydroslide and it was a lot of fun because we went on the super bowl. We also walked the mountain top trail. I saw Jorga from our class with Lucy and Billy. And we drove to the Avon with Tim and caught 21 fish.

Is this story true or false??????
Leave your thoughts in the comment section down below.

Top 10 ways to look after your chromebook!

For the past few weeks Rimu class have been making imovies about the top 10 ways to look after your chromebook. I worked in a group with Jack and Tim and was very happy with the finished result. There were lots of bloopers and we had a lot of fun making it. I learnt that we are really lucky to have a chromebook each at YMS and that the students need to look after them. Also the chromebooks help us learn more. Furthermore you can also access sites like Maths Whizz, Typing Club, Google Drive and other helpful sites.

Here is a little imovie to show how you how to look after your chromebook.

SURFING- William Pike challenge 1

On Monday 21st March the Year 7/8s from Rimu Class went surfing for the day at Sumner Beach for the first William Pike challenge award. First we learnt some basic things about surfing then we moved on to some harder things. After a while we moved in the water and started surfing. It was really fun. And i could see my classmates having fun as well.

I see waves
I see people having fun.

I hear screams of joy
I hear dogs barking on the sand

I feel waves crashing onto my head
I feel the sand on my feet

I touched the dog as it went past on the beach
I smell salty water

I wait until the perfect wave to come for me to surf
I see dogs on the beach having fun with each other

I can't wait to go surfing again
I felt the swimsuit tightening my body

My essay on Wonder by RJ. Palacio

Our reading task have been on a book written in first person by R.J Palacio. We had to answer questions about the Book and we also had to write a small essay which you can view below. I kind of like the book but I am more of a person who likes horror and scary books than nice books.

I think R.J Palacio uses first person when she tells ‘Wonder’. There are 3 examples as to why I think this.

Palacia has used first person in chapter 1 “ordinary”  at the start because he said  “I am not an ordinary ten year old kid” meaning that he used first person language because he said I and my.

August also says in chapter 2 “Why I don't go to school” when he said
“Next week I start fifth grade” meaning that he used first person language because he said I and my.
The last reason is that in chapter 3 “How I came to live” when he said I like it when mum tells me stories, It makes me laugh” meaning that he used first person language because he said I and my.

Therefore I conclude that Wonder is written in first person and is a great book to read so if you are looking for a nice book to read Wonder is the perfect book for you.

Shukoor's Mihi

In the first 2 weeks of school, Rimu class learnt how to create and say our mihimihi in Maori. This is our introduction to our class and community. We also created a visual mihimihi, artwork accompany our speeches. Each individual mihi had 3 parts to it.

  1. A self portrait or a photo
  2. Places of significance to you
  3. Symbols of pictures that represent our culture.

Those of us who spoke clearly, confidently with excellent pronunciation with great visuals and layout scored as well on our rubric. Take a look at my finished mihi and tell us what you think about it.
